We Maximise Spannung

Meet our past and current interns and learn more about their "Spannung" stories:

Sophia

Hi Sophia! Could you introduce yourself please?

My name is Sophia and I started working in the department Corporate Communications as a working student in June.

How has your overall experience been?

Amazing! My sister used to work at Tipico and my brother is still working here. They both talked so highly of the company which is why I applied for the job, and I have not been disappointed in any way. The work environment is great, and I have felt very welcomed ever since I started working here.

As you know, we believe in progress, how would you describe yours since you’ve been working here?

I am currently studying Communication and Media Management at Karlsruhe university. I am able to apply what I have learnt in my degree to support my work at Tipico eg. Photoshop. Experiencing the practical hands-on work at Tipico, I also improved and learnt things I was able to use for my studies.

What is special about Tipico?

One can definitely feel the #oneteam atmosphere. As I already mentioned I was very welcomed when I started to work here. It never felt like I was the “new one” and I think that is very special!

What’s your team and culture like?

We are a team of four which is quite small but it’s great. The fact that there are only four of us, means the communication is even easier and we can all keep up to date and stay aligned. Everyone knows what everyone else is up to and can easily help if need be.

Could you mention a Spannung moment?

A Spannung moment was the summer party I got to experience during the first few weeks. It was a great way to get to know everyone outside of the office.

Gabriel

Could you introduce yourself please?

Hi, I’m Gabriel, I’m 19 years old and currently doing my last year of my bachelor’s degree in MCAST for Multimedia Software Development. I joined Tipico as an apprentice this year as a backend software developer.

How has your overall experience been?

So far my experience has been great. Everyone at the office gave me a warm welcome, the environment is relaxed. Everyone in my team is hard-working and easy to collaborate with.

As you know, we believe in progress. How would you describe yours since you’ve been working here?

I have learned quite a lot during these past few months that I’ve spent working here. I’ve learnt about new technologies used in the industry, sharpened up my programming skills while also learning how to work in an agile team as a developer.

What is special about Tipico?

Tipico is special because it doesn’t feel like a normal job. Everyone treats you as an equal part of the team within a relaxed environment and its easy to get along with anyone in the company.

Could you mention a Spannung moment?

One memorable Spannung moment is when everyone at work got together to celebrate the end of summer and all the hard work we did throughout the past couple months on a boat party.

What’s your team and culture like?

We have a very lively culture in our team. Everyone is always there for you to help each other improve. We always have special events where everyone in the company can get together and get to know each other which encourages everyone to work hard and appreciate the work they do.

Hannah

Hi Hannah...What’s your Tipico story?

I started at Tipico back in October 2018 as an intern so around/almost 4 years ago 😊 within the Talent Acquisition team for supposedly a 6 month contract but I’ve been here ever since.

How has your overall experience been?

It has been a great and interesting experience so far, Tipico is a place where from when you join them, you are faced with challenging work from the start. It was my first job after coming out of university so it can feel like a big step up where you can bring your ideas to life and your team relies on you to contribute. You really get to work on something meaningful and feel a great sense of pride and achievement and take ownership and accountability.

As you know, we believe in progress. How would you describe yours since you’ve been working here?

I would say I am a totally different person since I joined, I was really given opportunities to change and improve myself whilst learning from experts around me. Yes, I have made progress when it comes to promotions but it’s so much more than that, it’s the opportunities I was given, the projects I was able to work on and contribute to which really made me learn, explore new areas and develop myself and really pushed my boundaries.

What is special about Tipico?

People really take the time to support you and you’ll be recognised, I was a new graduate who started their first job here, unsure of what I even wanted to do. I didn’t even consider Employer Branding as an option but I was guided by both my manager and our HR Director and it all started with a project that I worked on from end-to-end to revamp our job ads! But you have to be willing to learn and try out new things as you never know where your journey can take you.

Could you mention a Spannung moment?

For me a Spannung moment was definitely when we launched our new careers website, this took months to create to tell the Tipico story in the right way and with all the challenges and milestones to finally reach that moment, where we pressed the button to go live – really felt like an achievement. But of course along the way there was a lot of tension, adrenaline and excitement to get there.

What’s your team and culture like?

The culture, seems like somewhere friendly, welcoming but professional where you’re treated like an adult. Within our HR team, we are always looking at ways we can improve our processes and provide the best employee experience and to do this, we support each other and brainstorm together to find the best solution for us.

Lucas

What’s your Tipico story?

Hi I’m Lucas from Karlsruhe. I joined Tipico in 2021 as a working student in the HR department, focusing on Recruitment but due to my studies being in Finance, my dream was to one day work in the finance department. Fortunately, this dream came true when I joined the Controlling team as an Assistant Commercial Finance Analyst in May 2022. I had spotted the job as I was working in the Talent Acquisition team, spoke to my manager and applied for it.

How has your overall experience been?

There has never been a day I didn’t look forward to going to work. I love the work I do and the people I work with.

As you know, we believe in progress. How would you describe yours since you’ve been working here?

Exponentially! Not only the strong communication skills which I gained a lot through conducting interviews but also turning theoretical financial knowledge into practice.

What is special about Tipico?

It feels like working in a start-up environment but knowing it is actually a big company and has the benefits of one.

Could you mention a Spannung moment?

The first time I recognized a moment of Spannung was when I came to the office for my interview after seeing the office interior design and getting to know the HR team, I realised I really want to work there! It was a cool environment with down to earth people who I could see myself being in a team with.

What’s your team and culture like?

My colleagues have turned into friends. I learn a lot from everyone and there’s the professional side of it but we also go out for after-work drinks and bond as a team outside of the office.
