Our Story
Our story began with three students, a bold idea, and a small betting shop in Karlsruhe, Germany. Since then, we have become Germany’s market leader in sports betting, and expanded our offices across the world.

Pre-2004
- Three students create the “Tipico” model: “The customer should get the best sports betting experience”.
- They open the first shop in Karlsruhe.
2004
- Tipico is founded, and our headquarters are set up in St Julian’s, Malta. Our focus remains on Germany.
- We receive our EU-wide sports betting license. One betting shop becomes hundreds.
2005-2010
RAPID GROWTH
2005-2010
- We hit 500 franchise shops, with several hundred employees.
- Our website launches in 2005 for fans to bet online.
- In 2010 Tipico partnered with a Bundesliga club for the first time.
2011-2020
Innovation and Expansion
2011-2020
- In 2011, we launch our first smartphone app, so customers can bet on the go.
- Tipico is expanding its partnerships, including Oliver Kahn, FC Bayern München and the Bundesliga.
- We are the sports betting market leader in Germany and #1 in German App Store.
- CVC Capital Partners takes over the majority of the Tipico Group.
- Opened the Tipico Tower in Malta & Tipico Campus in Karlsruhe, our hubs for innovation and collaboration.
- In 2020, we are among the first operators to be granted the German sports betting licence.
