The Hackathon: A Culture of Getting Better Every Day
At our Karlsruhe office, we recently hosted a hackathon that was anything but business as usual. The idea? Simple but powerful: take people out of their daily routines, spark creativity, and encourage them to think outside the box. Rooted in our cultural value of “Get Better Every Day,” the event invited teams to explore fresh perspectives on how we work—and how we can work smarter.
What made this hackathon truly special was the mix of minds in the room. We had participants from different offices and functions- Product Managers, Software Developers, Infrastructure and Data experts, and even team members not from tech areas like Marketing. Everyone brought their own unique skillset, and many stepped out of their comfort zones to learn something new. The result? An energetic atmosphere of curiosity, collaboration, and innovation.
With a 100% turnout from registered participants, some stayed for over 14 hours! Our CTO, Stefan, joined the jury panel, adding excitement and recognition to the challenge.
Over two days, you could really see the spirit of being part of Tipico. The deep discussions, focused coding sessions, bursts of laughter, and new relationships forming. The hackathon wasn’t just about building solutions -it was about building connections.
AI was a major theme, with many teams exploring smart, scalable solutions. The winning project? An AI-driven incident resolution system that analyzes issues and provides teams with actionable insights to solve them faster. Other ideas tackled internal challenges, like helping employees find documents more efficiently using AI-powered search and content analysis.
One of the most exciting aspects was the exposure to new tools and technologies. Participants got hands-on with our existing AI toolset and explored the latest tech stack.
Beyond the code, the hackathon was a celebration of our culture: cross-functional collaboration, continuous learning, and having fun while doing it. It was a chance to eat, laugh, and innovate together - and we’re still talking about the energy and momentum it created.
This wasn’t just an event. It was a reminder of what’s possible when we come together with a shared mindset: to get better, every single day.
