What’s your Tipico Story?
It will be 10 years in a few days! Long story short, I was contacted to see if I was interested in working in the new office that Tipico was going to open in South America. First in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which is where I am from, and when it was decided that the office would be in Medellin, Colombia- I was offered to work remotely.
And I did it for more than 7 years until I moved to Medellin in 2019 to work on the new USA expansion project.
When I started, I used to trade live games, for a few months I was the only live trader during the night operation! I was also doing Risk Management and live bets monitoring, until I moved to Medellin to be the Operations Manager for the USA trading team in Colombia.
I can say that I did a bit of everything 😊
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF TIPICO?
It was a very different company back then. Much smaller, but seeing it grow to what it is today has been amazing.
MENTION YOUR BEST MOMENTS WORKING HERE.
I was lucky to be part of a couple of exchange program trips to other office locations - Malta, Croatia and Germany and those are unbelievable memories that I’ll never forget.
Also, the first big event we covered from South America, which was the 2014 Brazil World Cup. Back then almost all trading was done manually so it was a lot of work for each game, but we also had a lot of fun doing it.
WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE?
The last year was especially challenging as we were building the trading team for our USA product, and having to do it while dealing with the COVID restrictions, training new employees and making sure we were ready for the launch was not easy, but it was definitely worth the effort.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT TIPICO?
Even if the company grew a lot in the last few years, for me it still feels like a family. I’ve made friends in different places I’d never thought I would even visit.
The Colombian office in particular has a special vibe, anyone that has visited would agree that it feels different to any other. Everyone is passionate about sports and you can feel it. Since my first visit to Medellin back in 2012, it was clear to me, that this is a very special place.
WHAT’S YOUR DAILY PITCH LIKE?
Usually, I have calls in the morning which is the perfect time to do them due to the time zone differences we have across our office locations (it’s a 6 or 7 hours difference from Colombia to Europe), and then later in the day is all about making sure that we are offering the best product to our customers.
As the Operations Manager for the US, I work closely with our new team in both US and Croatia to make sure we have an attractive live sports offer, that the supervisors and traders have the tools and expertise they need to monitor every event, and of course I’m also part of the daily operation where we check that the markets and odds we offer are competitive within the industry.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN YOU WALK INTO OUR OFFICES?
Since the USA project has just launched a few months ago, we are a new player in a huge and very different market, and we are building a whole new trading team so there’s a lot of new things to learn and do every day. We have all kind of challenges ahead of us and that is what makes this job so interesting and fun.
AS YOU KNOW WE LOVE SPORTS.. WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE?
In Argentina football is like a religion so it’s definitely my favourite sport, but basketball is right behind it as I watched a lot of NBA growing up.
WHAT IS YOUR ONE PIECE OF ADVICE FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN BEING PART OF OUR GAME?
If you have a passion for sports, you like challenges and hard work, then Tipico is definitely the company where you want to work.
