Karlsruhe is the second largest city in Baden-Württemberg. It is one of the warmest cities in Germany with a lot of sunshine! As it is close to the river Rhine it can also be very humid during the summer months – a great reason to use one of the many swimming lakes surrounding the city.
Karlsruhe offers a great variety of musical and cultural events. “Das Fest” is one of the biggest open air festivals in Germany and takes place every year in Karlsruhe. Many restaurants, bars and movie theaters make for great evenings with your friends and family.
The Karlsruhe castle and it´s castle grounds are great for a bike ride or a Sunday walk and a picnic. You often see young artists practicing their skills, slackliners, jongleurs and lots of young people enjoying the beautiful scenery. As Karlsruhe has a lot of green areas it is great for families with children.
The Karlsruher Institute for Technology (KIT) is the biggest research institute in Germany. It is highly respected in physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil and structural engineering, industrial engineering and computer science.
Within a 30-minute drive you can reach the Black Forest. It offers great hiking trails in the summer and courses for cross country skiing in the winter.
